ADP is looking for a Capacity Planning Engineer, this person will be responsible for the capacity models for distributed system applications to accurately predict future hardware needs:
- Provide future business growth trends and incorporate into capacity models
- Develop hardware what-if scenarios to measure price performance, consolidation opportunities and platform synergies possibilities
- Identify application performance bottlenecks and recommend remediation strategies
- Assist in planning, managing and implementing system engineering projects as they relate to capacity and performance tuning activities
- Participate in technical architecture discussions to determine the most appropriate scalable model taking into consideration high availability, failover and disaster recovery
- Provide volume estimates to application performance test teams, review test results, raise performance and/or capacity related concerns for remediation
- Lead the evaluation of capacity and performance changes due to related upgrades to production (e.g. Major software/ infrastructure release).
-Triage production performance problems in arrears.
Qualifications Required
(Experience, Skills, Academic):
Education: Bachelors Degree, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience and certifications
Skills and Experience:
- At least 10 years work experience in technology field
- Min 5 years experience involved in some capacity and performance related activities (e.g. capacity planner, performance analyst, information system modeler)
- Quantifiable experience in information infrastructure performance assessment. This includes the complete analysis of perceived performance problems carried through to the quantifiable identification of the root-cause in a multi-tiered environment.
- Experience in the use of mathematical analysis to characterize and resolve problems.
- Ability to successfully communicate with personnel from a wide range of engineering, analytical, and software development specialties.
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work loosely supervised; run project meetings; drive innovation and solutions
Technical:
- Knowledge and experience with capacity/performance collection tools e.g. BMC Performance Assurance or BMC Perform/Predict, Hyperformix, Opnet, HP Capacity Advisor, Metron's Athene, TeamTrack, etc
- Working knowledge of Windows, Unix, Linux - Strong knowledge of Web Based Infrastructures, J2EE and/or .NET - Working knowledge of database structures, modeling and tools - Some knowledge of automated testing tools (HP LoadRunner, Open Source, etc.)
-VMWare VSphere farm exposure or any virtualization infrastructure exposure with responsibility for virtual guest performance, capacity or overall management.
